ACT Readers Theatre To Present Annual Courtroom Drama PDF Print
Written by Press release
Tuesday, 14 June 2011 15:34

Alleghany Community Theatre will present its annual ACT Readers Theatre courtroom drama on June 25 at 7:00 pm in the Alleghany County Courthouse courtroom at the intersection of routes 18 and 21 in Sparta. Directed by Bob Bamberg, the production will be Agatha Christie’s “Witness for the Prosecution.” Because of the large audiences these courtroom shows usually attract, the dress rehearsal at 3 p.m. on June 19th is open to the public.
“Set in postwar England, the play involves a seemingly guileless young married Englishman who is accused of murdering a rich widow-friend.” Bamberg explained. “The trial seems to go against him, then for him and finally? Well I wouldn’t want to ruin it for the audience!”
As in past, ACT courtroom dramas, effort has been made to draw the cast for roles in the play from the same profession they hold in the community. A lawyer plays a lawyer, a law officer a policeman, and so forth. Cast members include: Ed Adams, Dr. Joe Arocha, Roger Bledsoe, Brandi Bowles, Peter Bowles, Debbie Brady, Steve Carrier, Cheri Choate, Kristan Godderham, Jeremy Halsey, Brad Jenkins, Mark Ketchum, and Nathan Lundy.
There will be a discussion with the cast and director after the performance and the Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop, across the street from the courhouse, has agreed to remain open late after the Saturday performance so people may continue their evening if they wish.
Anyone wanting further information on “Witness for the Prosecution” should contact director Bob Bamberg at 336-372-2883.  There is also information on ACT’s Facebook page and website, www.alleghanycommunitytheatre.com.
