| Sophomores Cashion and Smith Earn All-State Honors |

![]() Appalachian State University softball left fielder Allie Cashion (Waxhaw, N.C./Weddington) and designated player Meghan Smith (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) earned two of the 12 spots on the 2011 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Softball Team, released on Thursday. Cashion was previously named to the Southern Conference all-tournament team and earned a first team all-league nod for her regular season performance as well. In the SoCon tournament, the Waxhaw, N.C. native led ASU with a. 467 batting average, collecting seven hits in 15 at-bats, while scoring two runs.For the season, Cashion led the Apps with 46 runs batted in and 14 doubles. She ranked second on the team with a .345 batting average, eight homeruns and a .607 slugging percentage in 50 games and 145 at-bats. She was named the SoCon’s Student-Athlete of the Week on May 18. Smith also earned first-team all-SoCon honors this season for leading the Mountaineers with a .359 batting average and 55 hits to accompany nine doubles, seven homers and six stolen bases in seven attempts. She started each of ASU’s 50 games and racked up 41 RBI in 153 at-bats. The 2011 campaign marked the most successful season in program history, as the Apps placed second in the league at 15-7 and tallied a 26-24 mark overall. Charlotte, Elon, and UNC Greensboro also placed multiple members on the squad.
