The Lenoir-Rhyne University Football Team has released its 2011 schedule, schools officials announced recently.

L-R's 10-game schedule features four contests at Moretz Stadium as the Bears look to build upon last year's 7-4 record and their first winning season since 1994.
The Bears are coached by first-year mentor Mike Houston, who took over for the retiring Fred Goldsmith in May. Prior to his elevation to L-R Head Football Coach, Houston served as Lenoir-Rhyne's Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach for four seasons.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens the season with back-to-back road games at Concord (September 3) and Davidson (September 10). Both contests are slated to start at 7 p.m. The Mountain Lions went 8-3 on the year while the Bears will be facing the Wildcats for the eighth straight season.
L-R's home opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, against South Atlantic Conference-power Carson-Newman beginning at 7 p.m. The Bears' 52-14 victory over the Eagles last year was L-R's first win over Carson-Newman since 1978 and clinched the team's first winning season in 16 years.
Lenoir-Rhyne's remaining home contests include league-foes Brevard (October 8) on Homecoming, Wingate (October 29) and Newberry (November 5) on Senior Day. All three games are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Wingate (9-3, 6-1) is coming off its first-ever South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship while the Newberry contest is once again for the Bishops Trophy.
The Bishops Trophy is given annually to the two Lutheran schools of North and South Carolina. Started by the ELCA in 1987, the Bishops Trophy series is tied at 12.
Lenoir-Rhyne also plays at North Greenville (October 1 at 7 p.m.) and travels to Tusculum (October 15 at 2:30 p.m.), Mars Hill (October 22 at 1 p.m.) and Catawba (November 12 at 1:30 p.m.) for league contests.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba have met 90 times with the Indians holding a 46-40-4 edge. Last season, the Bears defeated the Indians by a 31-17 score for their first victory over Catawba at home since 1993.
