The June 14th meeting of Green Drinks Boone will be hosted by Thunder Hill Plumbing and will focus on how green plumbing issues are changing the face of water conservation in the High Country.  As the only licensed green plumbing firm in the area, owners Andy and Heather Krause are helping businesses and homeowners with an analysis of their water usage habits and how more efficient products and retrofits can help reduce water usage and save on energy costs as well. Following a recent water usage audit at Pepper’s restaurant they were able to install new fixtures and retrofits that are projected to save thousands of dollars each year in water related costs.
The event will be held Tuesday evening June 14th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Pepper's Restaurant, located in the Shops at Shadowline in Boone.
Green Drinks Boone is an informal social networking organization that hosts monthly events for anyone interested in “green” activities in the High Country. It’s a great way to catch up with local people involved in “green” services and make new “green” contacts. Green Drinks Boone is among 15 other North Carolina communities and 750 cities worldwide that host monthly gatherings of sustainably-minded people who meet to informally discuss green business, green services and green activities. The Boone network organization has been meeting since 2008.
Green Drinks Boone gatherings are free and open to the public.  Participants cover their own cost of beverages and light snacks are provided. The slogan of the International Green Drinks organization is “Saving the World One Sip at a Time.” Green Drinks offers a great way of catching up with people you know and making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along so the crowd is always different, making Green Drinks a fluid, self- organizing network. These events are simple and unstructured with a lot of positive benefits. Attendees have found jobs, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity.
The host of the evening, Thunder Hill Plumbing, was founded in 2007 and is a “full service” licensed plumbing company that is also licensed through Green Plumbers USA. Andy Krause will provide information on various green plumbing strategies and retrofits that can save the average homeowner as much as 45% on their monthly water and associated energy bills, just by making some simple adjustments to the utilities in their homes.  “Going green is about fixing leaks, installing aerators, and making sure everything works as the manufacturer intended,” said Andy. “Upwards of 10% of residential water is wasted on leaks,” according to Andy, “and fixing these problems and changing habits and attitudes have a big impact.”
Green Drinks Boone will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of the month and they invite interested people to join them on FACEBOOK at Green Drinks Boone to receive future updates. Join the group on June 14th at Pepper's Restaurant from 5:30 to 7:30 to learn more about green plumbing and things that you can do to reduce water consumption and just hang out with folks who enjoy doing what they can to make our world a better green place.
