Ashe County High School has released its 2011-12 basketball schedule.

The men's and women's basketball teams will open their respective seasons at home against East Surry. The Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference opener will be a week later on November 29 against Wilkes Centtral in West Jefferson. The first road game will be played Friday, December 2 at Forbush.
The Huskies will play the Watauga High twice this season. The Huskies travel to Boone on Wednesday, December 14; the Pioneers travel to West Jefferson on Wednesday, Jaunary 11. The MVC tournament will be played February 13-17 at Wilkes Central.
The Ashe County men's team is led by former WHS coach and Athletics Director Marc Payne. He was named the Athletics Director of the Year by the North Carolina Athletics Directors Association in early May. Payne is entering his 38th year as head coach, and his tenth with the Huskies. Ashe County, which lost in the opening round of the state playoffs last season, was 17-10.
The Ashe County women, led by Laura Foster entering her 12th season, ended the 2010-11 season on a sour note. The Huskies (22-4), who complied their seventh consecutive 20-win season, lost to Wilkes Central in the MVC tournament championship game before they were eliminated by East Burke in the opening round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
