The Watauga High softball game between the Pioneers and South Caldwell scheduled for Tuesday night has been rained out.
Athletics Director Tom Wright made the announcement at 2 pm Tuesday afternoon. The game has been rescheduled. It will be played Wednesday night at the Sports Complex beginning at 6 pm. The winner of this game will play either Lake Norman (the No.1 seed from the I-Meck Conference) or Mallard Creek (a wildcard entry from the I-Meck) in the second round. The Pioneers swept South Caldwell during the regular season, the first time that's ever happened since the Spartans(10-11) joined the Northwestern Conference in 2001. And the Pioneers (9-12) haven't won a state playoff game since 2008 (when they defeated Harding University High 24-0 in the opening round). That's also WHS's only playoff win at the fast-pitch level in school history.
