Another witness reported seeing a tornado skip through Banner Elk Friday at about 6.  Jennifer Willis, who works at the Banner Elk Post Office, said “My boss and myself were leaving the Post Office Friday when we saw a tornado funnel come down in the back parking lot of Stonewalls.

The funnel wasn't there long enough to take a picture of it. But, I was able to get pictures of some damage it did to a privacy fence at the restaurant.”  Police reported seeing a funnel as power lines were taken down along with trees in the downtown area.
