Don’t forget, today launches Small Farms Appreciation Week. According to Watauga County Agricultural Extension Director, Sue Counts, North Carolina boasts one of the largest concentrations of small farms in the nation, and the numbers of small farms are growing, particularly in the High Country.
Join others for a tour of Diane Prices’ Farm At Mollie’s Branch in Todd today from 10am to 2pm to see a small organic farm in action. Also, to witness how they are supplying the farm’s energy with micro-hydroelectric power using streams on the property. Buying local also helps concerve our use of fossil fuels as not as much produce and livestock need to be trucked in from other places. The Watauga County Farmer’s Market opens May 5th at the Horn in the West Parking Lot. Contact the Watauga County Extension Office for the names of local farmers who would welcome orders.
