Appalachian State University’s cycling team finished seventh overall in Division I of the 2011 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships held in Madison, Wisc., May 6-8.
Nearly 500 student-athletes representing almost 100 colleges and universities from across the country competed. In addition to team honors, Appalachian cyclist Nick Inabinet earned second place in the men's criterium, while teammate Ashley James finished third in the women's competition. Taking second place in the men's team time trial were Inabinet, Reid Beloni, Clayton Omer and André Vandenberg. The 2010-11 academic year was the first time Appalachian competed at the Division I level in the Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference. Already it has won two conference championships, for road and cyclocross, and competed in the national competition for each area.
