Kill A Watt™ EZ meters, donated by Blue Ridge Electric, are now available for free checkout at all public libraries in Watauga, Wilkes, and Ashe Counties. Kill A Watt™ EZ plug power meters are designed to easily measure how much electricity is used by your plug-in appliances at home or at work. Understanding energy use and related costs can help you save energy and money through simple acts of conservation and efficiency.

You must have a valid public library card to borrow a Kill- A-Watt meter through this program. Meters can be found in the online catalog by searching for “Kill-A-Watt EZ electricity monitor”.
Meters may be checked out for one week with one renewal, and regular late fees apply if overdue.  If all meters are checked out, you may reserve a “copy” as you would any other item in the collection.  For more information call the library at 828-264-8784.  To find out more about the program and for tips on saving energy at home and work, please visit

The main library is located at 140 Queen Street in downtown Boone.
The Western Watauga Branch is located at 1085 US 421 in Sugar Grove.
