The Watauga High baseball team had its first-round Northwestern 3A/4A Conference tournament game with St. Stephens rained out on Tuesday night at Pioneer Field.

An official word on when the game will be play will be announced around 9 am Wednesday morning by coach Pete Hardee. Tenatively, the game was to be played Wednesday night at 6 pm, but because of poor drainage at Pioneer Field, the game may be pushed back to Thursday night at 6 pm. The only other alternative, according to Hardee, would be to move the game to St. Stephens on Wednesday night.
And weather played a role Tuesday as two first-round games were suspended by heavy rains. Hibriten and Alexander Central were halted by rain with the Panthers leading that game 2-0 in the third inning. The game will resume Wednesday night at 5 pm; the Hickory-Fred T. Foard game was stopped by heavy rains in the fourth inning with the scored tied at one. The game will resume Wednesday night at 5:30 pm.
The semi-finals and finals will be played Friday and Saturday at MS Deal Stadium in Granite Falls, NC. If the Pioneers advance, they will play the winner of Alexander Central and Hibriten at 4:30 pm Friday afternoon. Our coverage of the St. Stephens game will begin at 5:30 pm on Oldies 100.7 FM, either Wednesday or Thursday night, depending on which night the game will be played.
