Bomb Threat Delays Court Business PDF Print

The Watauga Sheriff’s Office emptied the Watauga Courthouse after a bomb threat was received by a courthouse employee at about 9:15 this morning.  The unidentified male caller stated that he was going to "come up and blow the place up," according to the Sheriff Len Hagaman, who said the courthouse was evacuated and Sheriff's Deputies and Boone Police officers thoroughly searched the courthouse facility finding no device. was located. But delay is all the caller got for their efforts, as the all-clear was given at about 10:20 and the process of screening all who wanted in allowed the slow return to business.

Speculation ran from someone not wanting their case heard today to reaction to the Osama Bin Laden death were put forward as possible causes of the threat.  Nothing suspicious was found at the building. The investigation into the source of the phone call and the identity of the caller are still under investigation and the individual could face criminal charges, according to the Sheriff.
