![]() Dexter Coakley, who had a brilliant football career at Appalachian State University, has been selected for induction into the Southern Conference Hall of Fame.
Coakley leads the class of 2011, which also includes legendary basketball coach Lefty Driesell, who won 176 games during his ten-year stay at Davidson; women's basketbal player Regina Kirk of Chattanooga, a four-time all-conference performer and the SoCon Player of the Year in 1988; General Robert Neyland, who won 173 games in 26 years of coaching at the University of Tennessee; Vic Seixas an All-America tennis player in 1948 at the University of North Carolina; and Shannon Wommack of Chattanooga, the 2006 Female Athlete of the Year in the Southern Conference. She was also cross country runner of the year for three consecutive seasons (2002, 2004 and 2005).
