| WHS Tennis Wraps Up Unblemished Conference Season |

![]() The Watauga High men's tennis team wrapped up Northwestern 3A/4A Conference play by defeating Hickory 6-3 to finish league play with a perfect 12-0 record.
The Pioneers (14-4 overall) were led by Steve Lake, Micheal Smith, Landon Taylor and Chris Ludwig in singles play; Lake and Smith teamed up for a win at No.1 doubles; Patrick O'Neal and Ludwig notched a win at No.3. The Pioneers will compete in the NW3A/4A Conference tournament today; they play Lake Norman in Hickory on Thursday to wrap-up the regular season. The dual team state playoffs begin Tuesday, May 3. The Pioneers, the No.1 seed from the NW3A/4A Conference, will host throughout the first three rounds of the state playoffs. The Pioneers will most likely play the No.4 seed from the I-Meck Conference in the opening round. The individual regionals will be held the weekend of May 6-7.
MIDDLE SCHOOL GOLF:
The Watauga County Middle School golf team competed in a three-team tournament on Monday. Watauga finished second with a team score of 177; Caldwell County won the meet, besting Watauga by five strokes with a team score of 172. Alexander County finished third with a 202. Tyler Johnson of Caldwell County was the leading medalist, pacing the field with a 36. Alan Graham led Watauga for a second consecutive match, as he fired a 41. Austin Northern had a 43, Rory McNeil had a 44 and Mile Lytle had a 51. Watauga will host a match at Boone Golf Club on May 4.
