![]() Freshmen De'Mon Brooks of Davidson, Trent Wiedeman from the College of Charleston and Trey Sumler from Western Carolina have been named to the 2011 Mid-Major Freshman All-America Team sponsered by CollegeInsider.com.
Brooks averaged nine points and five rebounds a game and shot 53% from the floor during his freshman year with the Wildcats; Wiedeman, a six-foot-eight forward, led the Cougars in reubounding. He averaged seven boards a game. He also produced four double-doubles this season, shot 62% from the floor and scored in double figures 17 times; Sumler, who became Western's starting point guard early in the year, started 21 of 31 games. He averaged 11.5 points-per-game this season, and he led all freshman in scoring in the SoCon games with a 13.4 ppg average. He also scored 20 points or more in a game twice, including a career-high 24 against Davidson. Sumler also garnered both top rookie honors from both the SoCon head coaches and the media association. He is the second WCU rookie to receive top freshman honors in the past three years as teammate Harouna Mutombo was the Freshman of the Year in 2008-09.
