A reported break-in lead to a man shooting his neighbor in an incident  in Hays late Tuesday afternoon, according to the Wilkes Sheriff’s Department.
Christopher Lee Sheets, 28, of Crystal Lane, was shot in the abdomen and thigh about 4 p.m. by neighbor David Morlando, 43, after Morlando saw a man taking first a riding mower from one neighbor’s home, then come from behind a second neighbor’s home.  Sheets was taken by AirCare helicopter to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, listed in serious condition late yesterday. Investigators say that David Morlando confronted Sheets after he emerged from behind the second home, and pulled a handgun as he kept walking toward Morlando, shot just before reaching Morlando’s yard after being told to stop.  Investigators have the gun said to have been used in the shooting, and said that, although neighbors, the men did not know each other.  The investigation is continuing and charges are pending, according to investigators, who have not been able to interview Sheets.
