Here’s something we haven’t seen in awhile—a 24-hour 7-day manufacturing operation. Governor Bev Perdue announced yesterday that Pittsburgh Glass Works will be bringing such an operation—a high-tech operation—to Elkin.
PGW will invest $85 million in turning it into a manufacturing plant for automotive glass. At full operation, the plant will have the capacity to produce 1.2 million windshields a year and an additional 900,000 car sets, which include side lights, back lights and roof glass. By late 2014 or early 2015, officials expect to be producing windshields in a factory that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. |
