A large two-story chicken house burned totally in Millers Creek yesterday. The Millers Creek Fire Department found the Boone Trail structure fully involved in the early afternoon call, then found more danger in that propane tanks were at the building that was on fire, and that another large structure was also threatened, causing a call for Wilbar, Wilkesboro, and other departments.
Loss in the fire was said to have been extensive. The fire insures a bad week for poultry operations in the foothills. Earlier, the storms that struck the area early Tuesday took out several chicken houses--Paul Wells of Wells Hollow Road, just across the Wilkes line in Yadkin County, lost two side-by-side chicken houses between 12:30 and 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Others in the area suffered roof damage. |
