Good things happen to good people.Such is the case with former Appalachian State men's basketball coach Houston Fancher, who was hired on as an assistant coach with the University of Tennessee on Tuesday. Fancher, who was named interim head coach of the Vols when then head coach Bruce Pearl was dismissed on March 19, was hired on as Director of Basketball Operations by new head coach Cuonzo Martin.
Fancher was the coordinator of video recruiting with the Vols the last two seasons. He was a graduate assistant during the 2009-10 season before joining Pearl's staff on a full-time basis last season.
Fancher was also the head coach at ASU for nine years. He was 137-136 during his stay with the Mountaineers. He was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2003, and he led the Mountaineers to a school-record 25 wins and an appearance in the National Invitational Tournament in 2007.
Martin, who was named head coach of the Vols on March 27, was at Missouri State last season. He led the Bears to 26 wins, won the Missouri Valley Conference title, led Missouri state to an NIT berth and was named MVC Coach of the Year.
