You can't win 'em all.

Madison Bumgarner, who really established himself as the number five starter for the San Francisco Giants last season and picked up a win in the World Series last fall against the Texas Rangers, got off to a shakey start in his 2011 debut on Tuesday afternoon. The lefthander from South Caldwell High School, only lasted one hitter into the fourth inning as the San Diego Padres beat the Giants 3-1 at PETCO Park in San Diego.
Bumgarner coughed up three runs, all earned, in three innings of work. He gave up five hits and walked three with a pair of strikeouts in suffering the loss. The world-champion Giants are off to a 1-4 start.
