Brittany Bolick has made quite an impression as a rookie head coach. She's led the Watauga High women's soccer team to seven wins, and she has the Pioneers (7-2-1 overall; 3-1-1 in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) challenging league heavyweights St. Stephens and Hickory for a possible conference crown. Bolick picked up the biggest victory in her young career as the Pioneers defeated Hickory 2-1 on March 24.
And despite a tough loss at home against St. Stephens last Tuesday night, the Pioneers bounced back Friday night by knocking off Avery 2-0 down in Newland. Kendyl Baird snapped a scoreless tie with a goal at the 78 minute mark of the second half. Hannah Younger added an insurance tally a minute later. Baird and Younger each had a goal and an assist each.
The Pioneers return home for a pair of games this week. The South Caldwell match that was moved back to Monday, because of rain and thunderstorms in the forecast on Tuesday, will now be played Thursday night. Hibriten comes to town on Friday.
