A Vilas man has been rushed to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after an early Saturday morning wreck on US 421 in Vilas.  25-year old Eric Michael Everington was seriously hurt when his vehicle left the highway just before 4am, slamming into a block retaining wall at a business in the 1900 block of 421 North.

At Watauga Medical Center, Everington was able to tell the trooper T.B. Hendrix that he thought he hit a patch of ice, but the trooper said, although it was snowing, that the road was just wet.  Hendrix charged Everington with DWI and left of center before he was transferred to Baptist.
