WOMEN'S SOCCER:
St. Stephens defeated Watauga High 4-1 Tuesday night in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference game. Kendyl Baird scored the only WHS goal at the 22 minute mark of the first half. Hannah Younger had an assist. The Pioneer (6-2-1 overall; 3-1-1 NW3A/4A) travels to Avery for a non-conference game Friday night. The JV team defeated St. Stephens 5-0. Eliza Enterline had two goals and an assist in the win.
MEN'S GOLF:
The WHS men's golf team finished sixth in a NW3A/4A Conference meet Tuesday afternoon at the Catwaba Country Club. The Pioneers had a team score of 343. Ben Beason paced the Pioneers with an 81. Trey McNeil had an 86. Hickory bested the field with a team score of 302. St. Stephens finished 12 shots back with a 314. J.T. Poston of the Red Tornadoes was the leading medialist. He fired a 71. Teammate Mathew Turner finishsed five shots back with a 76.
MEN'S TENNIS:
The WHS men's tennis team defeated Wilkes Central 7-2 Tuesday night in a non-conference match in Boone. Steve Lake, Michael Smith, Harrison Battle, Patrick O'Neal and Aaron Evans were all victorious in singles play. Lake and Smith picked up a win at No.1 doubles; Battle and O'Neal picked up a win at No.2 doubles. The Pioneers (9-2 overall; 7-0 in the NW3A/4A) travel to Hickory Thursday night.
SOFTBALL:
St. Stephens scored five times in the third inning and defeated WHS 9-2 Tuesday night in a NW3A/4A Conference game in St. Stephens. Shelby Drummonds paced the Pioneers (2-7; 2-3 NW3A/4A) with a triple, a single, an RBI and a run scored. Kim Robinson had a base hit and drove in a run. Tori Wright had a base hit. The Pioneers travel to Ashe County Thursday night for a non-conference game.
