While the idea of state employees paying a good portion of their health coverage is being heard in the legislature, North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell said one part of the proposal—to move the health insurance plan for state employees to the executive branch is a good way to ensure accountability.

State lawmakers are considering a proposal that would transfer the State Health Plan to the Treasurer’s office. The measure was approved by the senate just after 10 this morning. Democratic Sen. Josh Stein saying the issue needs to be balanced, “We need to make changes.  But it has to be done in a way that is one-sided.  This is a patently one-sided deal that puts too much on the people who are educating our children and who are keeping us safe.”
