Former Watauga High baseball player Josh Wyant is having the time of his life. And for a guy, who was concerned about playing college baseball a year ago, Wyant is living out his dream in a big way at Winston-Salem State University, a Division II school in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The former Pioneers has played in 11 games this spring, including seven starts. He's batting .333 with seven hits, including two doubles, three runs scored and four runs-batted-in.
Wyant had an RBI double on Wednesday in a game-one, double-header loss to Augusta State. And he was 1-3 in game two as the Rams (17-11) rallied to win, 6-3.
Wyant put up some big numbers for the Pioneers last spring after he transferred in from Maiden High School. Wyant batted .374 with a home run, six doubles and 20 RBI. He also had a .426 slugging percentage. Pitching-wise, Wyant didn't give up a run in three appearances with a save.
Wyant excelled in three sports at WHS last season---cross country, swimming and baseball. And for his efforts he earned the Trailblazer Award, which goes to the top senior athlete participating in multi-sporting events.
