WHS Track Has Strong Showing At Marvin Ridge PDF Print

The Watauga High track teams were stellar on Saturday at the Second Annual Marvin Ridge Invitational in Charlotte.


The WHS women dominated the field winning the meet with 104.5 points; the men were second with 44 points. Butler won the men's meet with 101 points; Western Guilford was a distant second to WHS in the women's meet with 79 points.
Sophomore Darby Middlebrook and senior Jordan Pineda were the WHS entries to win their respective events.
Middlebrook, the Gatorade Athlete of the Year in North Carolina, won the 1500-meter run in 5:14. Teammate Hannah Barbour was four seconds behind finishing second in 5:18. Hallie Middlebrook was sixth in that event.
Pineda, a grey-shirt football recruit at Wake Forest University, won the discus throw with an effort of 140-feet, five inches. He was second in the shot put. Tara Trivette was second in the high jump, Sidney Cook was third. Laura Gulliver finished second in the pole vault and WHS finished had a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay.
Doria Kosmala finished fifth in the 3200, Julia Roberts finished fifth in the 400, and Shelby Abernathy was fifth in the 100-meter dash.
For the men, Reed Harris had a second-place finish in the pole vault, Jake Pifer was fourth in the high jump and WHS was fourth in the 4x800 relay. Daniel Osborne was fifth in the 1500.
The WHS track teams travel to St. Stephens for a Northwestern 3A/4A meet on Wednesday.
