Michael Auberry, the Greensboro Boy Scout who was lost in the woods in Wilkes County for four days is on the mend.

After spending some time at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro for treatment for dehydration and for a little frost nip, his father Kent says the feeling is returning to his fingers and toes, and his spirits are back to normal. Auberry said that President Bush is ready to talk with Michael whenever he’s ready. Apparently, he’s not quite ready yet, though he has come forward to thank the rescue workers and volunteers for their work to find him. Michael apparently did rely on some scouting skills to survive, telling his family that replayed some of his favorite cartoons at night. He also said that soon after following his impulse to leave the camp he realized he’d made a mistake, but that he was already lost. At that point, the idea to try to hitchhike home was an afterthought. He said he also heard the rescue workers calling for him, but apparently they did not hear his replies. Sister Debbie was thrilled at his return. The eight year old was one of the first to coax Michael to smile according to their father.
