![]() Gus Coffey and Demetree Kostis of the Watauga High wrestling team got off to a tough start Friday morning in the opening round of the Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Coffey, competing at 103 pounds and a fourth-place finisher at regionals last weekend, lost his first-round match to Mitch Goldbach of Wake Forest-Rollesville. Goldbach, who is undefeated (43-0), defeated Coffey by pinfall (in 4:53). Kostis, competing at 125 pounds and who finished third at regionals last weekend, was pinned by Bradley Stewart of Scotland County in ten seconds in his first-round match. Coffey won his consolaiton match. He defeated Hinton 11-6 to stay alive in the tournament. Unfortunately, Kostis lost his consolation match to Parsley, 4-1. Kostis finishes his season at 39-10.
