Bethel Elementary School was placed on lock down for about 20 minutes yesterday afternoon after a shooting was reported at a residence just down from the school.

The Watauga County Sheriff's Office and medical personnel responded to 145 Bethel School Road at about 2 p.m. after receiving a call from a 50-year-old woman saying she had shot herself in the shoulder. School officials say the sheriff's office requested the lock-down. After deputies and medics arrived at the shooting scene and all was secure, the lock-down ended.
