The Watauga High wrestling team produced a pair of state qualifiers on Saturday at the Class 4A Western Regional at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte.

Demetre Kostis finished in 3rd place at 125 pounds. He was 4-1 with a technical fall. Gus Coffey finished in 4th place at 103. Coffey was 4-2 with a pinfall. Jake Gilliam (160 pounds) and Robbie Sherrill (189) were both eliminated in the consolation round. They were both 2-2 at the tournament. In all, the Pioneers had six qualfiers in the field.
Team-wise, the Pioneers finished in 17th place with 35 points.  Lake Norman won the regional title with 195.5 points. The state finals will be at the Greensboro Coliseum February 24-26.
