ASU Police were called to the Belk Library on campus at about 7:50 last night after a report of a man pulling a handgun, cocking the small automatic weapon outside the library attempting to rob a man—the victim not an ASU student, according to ASU Police Chief Gunther Doerr. The suspect fled toward King Street and a description of the suspect – white male, approximately 5’ 8”in his early 20’s—was given to ASU officers and Boone Police who joined the search for the suspect.  The search went on for over an hour, with lawmen returning to the library area at about 9pm with reports that indicated the armed suspect was back near the library. Officers quickly worked to surround the access points and possible escape routes and right at 9:30, the suspect was found outside the library in the circle driveway and was taken into custody without further incident. Doerr has not identified the suspect, only to say he was not an ASU student, and is a 19-year old from Thomasville, his release saying the investigation is still underway.
