Watauga High wrestling coach James Eichmiller has announced that the Pioneers have 6 wrestlers going to the Class 4A Western Regional this weekend at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. Gus Coffey (at 103 pounds and a 4th seed), Mark Townsend (112 and a 11th seed), Demetree Kostis (125/3rd seed), Jonah Critcher (152/16th seed), Jacob Gilliam (160. 3rd seed) and Robbie Sherrill (189/8th seed) will represent the Pioneers. The top 16 wrestlers with the 16 highest winning percentages in each weight class qualified for regional competition.
The regional tournament will take place Friday and Saturday. The top 4 place finishers in each weight class will advance to the state tournament, February 24-26 at the Greensboro Coliesum.
