The Snyder Apartments on King Street were evacuated at about 9:30 Saturday evening after residents reported first the smell of smoke, then the fire alarm sounding.

As first Boone Fire units arrived, the fire alarms in the rest of the building activated as residents reported the smell of gas.  Boone Fire investigated the source of the smells, while apartment management was called to determine how to deal with displaced tenants.  Watauga Medics stood by along with Boone Police.
