The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting that a committee of the UNC system's governing board recommended tuition and fee increases today of about $400 a year on average for in-state undergraduate students. That includes an average 6.8 percent tuition increase across the system for the 2011-2012 school year. Appalachian State University’s Board of Trustees approved back in December a $282 increase in campus-based tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates and a $313 increase in-state graduate students for the 2011-12 academic year. As a result, in-state undergraduates living on campus can expect to pay $11,687.74 depending on the residence hall and meal plan selected for the 2011-12 academic year. Out-of-state undergraduates living on campus would pay a total of $23,735.74 a year. The UNC system's Board of Governors will likely approve the recommendations tomorrow.
