A man badly injured in a wreck early Friday morning in a Wilkes wreck died Tuesday afternoon at a Winston-Salem hospital, according to the Wilkes Journal-Patriot, quoting Trooper J.E. Gooch of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Robert Michael Mellon, 53, of Country Club Road, Wilkesboro, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mellon owned Mother Earth Foods and Eatery on East Main Street in Wilkesboro. He was a passenger in a 2003 sport/utility vehicle driven by Irma Ester Estrada, 31, of Wilkesboro. Ms. Estrada was initially charged with felony hit and run and failure to maintain lane control in the wreck, which happened about 1:45 a.m. last Friday morning on Country Club Road. Ms. Estrada ranoff on the right, hitting a fence and a tree, according to Gooch, who said Estrada and another passenger, Gary Neil Brown, 56, of Country Club Road, left the scene. Mellon was left in the vehicle, later discovered by a Deputy of the Wilkes Sheriff’s Department, who called for medical assistance. |
