![]() Watauga High Athletics Director Tom Wright has announced that the WHS-Alexander Central basketball games scheduled for Friday night have been postponed because of inclement weather.
The games will be made up Saturday, beginnning with the JV girls at 2 pm. The varsity women play at 5 pm; the varsity men's game will follow. Our coverage begins at 4:30 pm on Oldies 100.7 FM. The WHS women have beaten Alexander Central seven consecutive times. The Cougars (7-12; 3-6) haven't beaten the Pioneers since the 2006-07 season, when they swept the season series. WHS defeated Alexander Central 67-44 in Taylorsville on January 15. Brooke Rhodes paced WHS with 18 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. The Alexander Central men snapped a four-game losing streak against the Pioneers in their first meeting on January 15 in Taylorsville. The Pioneers got off to a great start, thanks to Damian Edwards who poured in a game-high 32 points. But WHS eventually cooled down and lost the game, 78-68. Only four players scored in that loss.
