![]() The Appalachian State University football team has its first signee on National Signing Day---runnning back/defensive back/return man Darius Smith from South Lakes High School in Reston, Va. Smith, who stands five-foot-11, is an outstanding athlete. He played running back, wing back and defensive back for the Seahawks last fall. He also returned three punts for touchdowns.Quarterback Kameron Bryant of Panther Creek High School in Cary, NC, verbally committed to Appalachian State on Saturday. He is expected to make it official today by signing his national letter. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Bryant threw for more than 2,400 yards this season and ran for more than 400 yards in 15 games. He led Panther Creek to a 4-AA Eastern Regional Final appearance, and to the Tri-Nine Conference championship. He was also considering offers from Elon, , N.C. Central, Norfolk State and Western Carolina.
