Sunday, a caller informed the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office about several suspicious items found near a phone box on Longhope Rd. in Todd, suspicious that they might be related to an alleged “meth lab.”
Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit responded to the scene at 2201 Longhope Rd. and confirmed the presence of items used in the “Shake and Bake” method of manufacturing methamphetamine. The SBI was contacted and a cleanup crew responded and the hazardous material was disposed of per DEA and OSHA regulations. Shderiff Len Hagaman said the impact upon the public by such dump sites is very dangerous and the impact upon the environment is of great concern as many of these dangerous materials may reach streams and wells. It is also the fourth lab in as many weeks in January in Watauga. The investigation into who left the remnants there is still underway and arrests are expected. |
