The Appalachian State University football team received another verbal commitment on Sunday night. And the most-recent recruit has NFL ties.Wide receiver/defensive back BoBo Beathard from Battlefield High School in Haymarket, VA., has selected ASU as his college choice. He will make it official by signing his national letter of intent on Wednesday.
Beathard's grandfather Bobby Beathard was a scout, a player personnel director and general manager with several teams during his 38-year stay in the National Football League. He led the Miami Dolphins, the Washington Redskins, and the San Diego Chargers to seven Super Bowls, winning four of them.
Beathard, who stands five-foot-ten and weighs in at 175 pounds, also had an offer from Wofford College, a school he visited two weeks ago, but he preferred ASU because of the spread offense, which he felt was a better fit for him than Wofford’s triple-option offense.
A versatile player who earned all-Group AAA honors from the Associated Press as a defensive back, Beathard said he was recruited as a wide receiver and kickoff returner for Appalachian State.
Potential college recruits will officially sign their national letters of intent on Wednesday, February 2.
