Watauga High senior Jordan Pineda has made a verbal committment to play football at Wake Forest University of the Atlantic Coast Conference next season.

Pineda, a two-time all-conference selection, had 90 stops last season, 16.5 tackles-for-loss and six quarterback sacks. For his career, Pineda had 166 tackles, 37.5 TFL, 17 quarterback sacks, three fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

"They say only one of 1,600 kids get a Division I college scholarship," Pineda said. "I would like to play in the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference). It's stressful going through the process, but it's fun and exciting as well."
The Demon Deacons, led by coach Jim Grobe, are coming off a disappointing 3-9 season last fall. National signing day is set for Wednesday, February 2.
