Furman University's new head coach Bruce Fowler is slowly putting together his coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Fowler, a Furman alum, has brought in another former Paladin to join his coaching staff in 2011. Fowler has named Des Kitchings his new offensive coordinator. Kitchings was an All-America for the Paladins in 1999. A return specialist, Kitchings  led the Football Championship Series (formerly Division I-AA) with a 35.1-yard average on kickoff returns on Furman's Southern Conference championship team that season.
Kitchings later became an assistant coach at Furman. He worked with the Paladins' tight ends and as co-special teams coordinator from 2004-07. He spent the last three years at Vanderbilt working alongside Fowler, who was the Commodores' defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.
Fowler replaced Bobby Lamb, who resigned on November 19---a day before the regular-season ended---as head coach on December 13. He inherits a team that hasn't made the FCS playoffs in four years, and a team that was 5-6 last fall.
The Paladins host Appalachian State on November 5 in Greenville, SC. The Mountaineers have won six in a row in the series.
