With Friday’s school closing, Watauga students have now missed 15 days of school, but school officials are trying hard to get in a make-up day Saturday.

With some luck and a lot of sunshine, schools will be open Saturday for Watauga and Ashe students, and Monday, January 17 for Watauga, trying to make up two of the missed days. And there has been a shift in strategy by Watauga to try to get in the make-up day tomorrow:  If school is able to start on time Saturday, it will be an early release day, with kindergarten through eighth classes dismissed at 12:00 and the high school at 1:00.  If there is a delay, schools will release at their regular times. Pre-kindergarten classes are not held on Saturday, and there is no after school program Saturday. Monday, January 17 will be a regular school day, and the forecast is looking better to get that day in with some snow possible early Sunday, then periods of rain into Monday—but the icing and other frozen precipitation has been removed from the forecast—for now.  The teacher workday scheduled for that date has been postponed until Saturday, January 22.
