The first court action of the New Year takes place today in the case of the death of Zahra Baker, that as her step-mother, Elisa Baker, is scheduled for court in Newton. The 42-year-old has been in jail since Oct. 10, when she was arrested on several outstanding warrants, mostly unrelated to the Zahra case. But the one she was indicted on in the Zahra case—felony obstruction of justice charges from Nov. 1—come for writing a false ransom note for $1 million in connection with the case. Baker is scheduled to appear in court in Newton today on that charge.
