Boone Firemen were called to an alarm at Deerfield United Methodist Church at about 8:30 this morning, and soon determined they had a working fire in the structure.
First units found smoke in the fellowship hall, then followed the smoke to the connector between the parsonage and the main structure of the church, finding fire there. A second fire call then went out, with back-up of a crew from Blowing Rock called in, and the search for areas on fire was launched in earnest, including cutting into the roof area. Smoke could be seen coming from the roof area of the area bridging the parsonage and fellowship hall, but Boone Fire was on the scene through the morning and details have not yet been released.
