Schools Get In Last Day Before Break PDF Print

Watauga and Ashe County Schools actually got in the last day before the Christmas holidays today—but the Watauga school system will have to do the math over the holidays on dealing with the 10 days already missed. They announced the first part of that plan last week, with a return to the classroom a day early—January 4th—but history is not on their side.  Many years, schools miss their return from Christmas break due to weather, and this winter—which officially began last night—has not given reason to hope for better.  The long-term forecast for the winter was for a strong start for wintry weather, and we’ve had that, then turn more mild.  We’re looking forward to that.  And Watauga School officials are, too.  In the shorter term, we’re looking for a white Christmas Day, with rain, then snow moving in late Christmas eve.
