Watauga High Athletics Director Tom Wright has announced that Friday's basketball games at South Caldwell will be moved up 30 minutes early.
The JV girls game begins at 3:30 pm and our coverage begins 6 pm on Oldies 100.7 FM. The WHS men and women will play their Northwestern 3A/4A Conference openers Friday night. The South Caldwell women are currently 8-0, and they are led by potential player-of-the-year candidate Matison Hall. The four-year varsity player averaged 14 points-a-game last season. Point guard Shania Sams led the Spartans with seven assists a game last year. The Spartans won the regular season championship last season, but lost the tournament title to Hickory. They lost to A.C. Reynolds in the second round of the state playoffs. The WHS men will take on a South Caldwell team that's currently 0-8. The Spartans, who only return an average of 14-points-a-game from last season, have had only one winning season and one .500 season in the last 11 years. They've only won nine games in the last three years. |
