Travel troubles seem to be mounting as more folks try to get to work or other destinations this morning.  A vehicle skidded off of Deerfield Road and landed over the embankment just before 7am at the Wheeler Street intersection

near Deerfield United Methodist Church.  No injuries were reported, but the accident and the emergency response to it is complicating traffic on a normally busy route into town for commuters.  NC 16 from the Wilbar Community in Wilkes to the top of the mountain at the Ashe County line has been closed due to vehicles being stranded on the highway.

State Patrol radio traffic would indicate that the foothills and into the Piedmont are getting more slick weather, with a number of traffic accidents keeping law enforcement very busy. Icing seems to be worse in the areas of 421 through the Yadkin Valley at this hour.
