![]() Four people were transported to area hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation—two of those for burns—after a pre-dawn fire yesterday morning in eastern Wilkes. Fire was discovered at about 5:30 yesterday morning in a mobile home at 6144 Elkin Highway, a bathroom trash can on fire, with fire spreading into the ceiling. Residents were still in the home when the 9-1-1 call came in, but Roaring River firemen managed to clear all residents from the trailer while calling for EMS. Paramedics transported two to Wilkes Regional Medical Center for smoke, then a Mother and 8-year old boy to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, suffering smoke inhalation and some burns. The Wilkes Fire Marshal has the matter under investigation.
