A tragic day in Zionville ended in Foscoe with the capture of the man wanted in connection with the shooting death of his wife. A domestic shooting claimed the life of a Mabel School Road woman, her husband sought by Watauga lawmen, captured behind Foscoe Country Corner just after 6pm. The shooting took place at a home on Mabel School road, the 9-1-1 call coming in just before 2:30 from a child, reporting his mother shot, his dad fleeing. The suspect was last seen running in the direction of Mabel School, causing a lock-down of the school, and it was only after numerous erroneous sightings were checked out that the children were released under extreme security, provided by Watauga Deputies.
Family and friends gathered along the road, first at a roadblock near the school, then finally as near to the small house as they would be allowed.  Many were in tears, awaiting news, some trying to offer help.  Lawmen were finally told the suspect was at a billiards hall in Foscoe, but as units arrived, he fled on foot and was captured in the back yard of a house just off NC 105.
