The Appalachian State football team remained No.2 in this week's The Sports Network Top 25 Poll.
ASU (9-2 overall and the No.1 overall seed in the FCS Championship Series playoffs) received 39 first-place votes. Eastern Washington, which won the Big Sky Conference, is the new No.1 team---its first No.1 ranking of the season. Stephen F. Austin (six first-place votes), Williams & Mary (three first-place votes) and Delaware round out the top five. Montana State, Wofford, Jacksonville State, Souteast Missouri State, and Villanova (last year's defending national champion) round out the top ten. Georgia Southern is 20th. The FCS playoffs begin with the wildcard round Saturday. Georgia Southern (7-4), which defeated Furman last Saturday to clinch a playoff spot, opens post-season play Saturday at South Carolina State. ASU, Georgia Southern and Wofford are the only Southern Conference teams to earn post-season bids. The Terriers (9-2) receive a first-round bye, like the Mountaineers, and will open the playoffs at home against Jacksonville State on December 4. The Mountaineers will play the winner of Coastal Carolina or Western Illinois in the post-season opener on December 4 at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Game time is set for high noon, our coverage of that game begins at 10 am on AM 1450, WATA.
